Resolution passed at CLP GC meeting on 18th July
West Ham Labour Party welcomes the management reorganisation of the Newham Council Repairs and Maintenance Service (RMS) and tighter financial regulation following the £9m loss in this unit.
We fully support RMS being retained ‘in house’ by direct labour staff having quality of service, efficient use of resources, and a content and dedicated workforce as it’s key objectives.
However, this CLP believes that this cannot be achieved without the full involvement of Tenants, Residents, Tenants Associations where they exist, the Council, the staff in RMS and their Trade Union representatives as well as other relevant Stakeholders.
We therefore request the Council open a discussion with all relevant parties to establish an Oversight Board for RMS with the majority involvement of people elected from the above mentioned Stakeholders.’
