“Hello, we are from West Ham Labour Party” was heard in many Labour campaign offices and on many doorsteps as our dedicated Members went out to the electorate to promote the Labour Manifesto en masse, come rain or shine.

Jeremy Corbyn had promised that “We’re ready to unleash the biggest people-powered campaign we’ve ever seen” and the Members of West Ham CLP responded enthusiastically, joining the hundreds of thousands of grassroots Labour Party Members campaigning across marginal seats throughout the country.

In West Ham, our Members mobilised for six weeks across London and in many neighbouring constituencies, with people walking hundreds of miles, knocking on thousands of doors and making thousands of phone calls between them.

We created an acticvist map of marginals in and around London with a regularly updated campaign grid  regular  phonebanking sessions and training sessions for canvassers as well as resources and guide to doorstep conversations and that last big push

Devastatingly, this was not enough to counter the Tory lies, the Press and TV bias and the billionaire backed campaign of disinformation, smears and propaganda against our fight for the Many.

We will analyse and debate our defeat once the dust has settled – we will learn and we will come back stronger in the continuing fight against an Establishment intent on crushing the most vulnerable.

Meanwhile, let’s celebrate our own incredible campaign in West Ham with a series of pictures, memories and experience gained which will be invaluable going forward in future campaigns.

Pat yourselves on the back …hug your comrades …we are entering a supremely difficult time and we need to support each other through the coming Tory onslaught of cuts, lies and broken promises.

    Solidarity forever!
