Resolution passed at CLP GC meeting on 23rd Jan 2020
West Ham Labour Party notes:
Last month council’s planning committee approved the Morgan House Redevelopment which provides the minimum 35 per cent of “affordable” homes of which only sixty per cent will be rented at social rent.
Which means that instead of nearly half of 423 units, we will be getting only 88.
This falls well short of Newham Mayor’s pledge to: “ensure that at least 50 percent of Council and private homes that are built in Newham over the next 4 years are let at social rents and are owned by the Council.”
West Ham Labour Party believes:
In order to tackle the housing crisis in Newham the council needs to think radically and take firm and decisive action.
West Ham Labour Party calls on:
The Mayor, the deputy Mayor and the rest of the cabinet to take immediate action to amend council’s planning policy to ensure that any future developments in Newham must abide by the Mayor’s pledge of at least 50 per cent council homes.
